Thanks for the encouragement

I was tired this week when I blogged because of working extra at work but nothing (barring major injury) will stop me from doing the marathon. I've skipped a Xtraining day and one 40-50 min. run this week but feel good about the 10 mile run tomorrow. Thanks for letting me off the hook (I mean so I can move forward and not think about the days I miss running)--we can be our own worst enemies in trying to accomplish too much. I do keep to the schedule and I don't try to over-exercise and add time. See ya'll tomorrow bright and early and hot!! Bonnie

Anyone out there discouraged?

I missed this past 9 mile run with the group (Lakeshore Park) and haven't been able to make it up but I have been on schedule as far a the weekly training. I ran 4 miles today and average about 13 min/mi. I have the usual stuff creeping into my head that tells me, "How can you possibly run 26.2 miles when you are just barely making 9 miles?" Anyway, I know doubt is normal if you are a first time marathon runner but it can make you feel like quitting. No, I'm not going to quit!!! It's great weather for training. Hope everyone else is moving right along with their training. Take care. Bonnie

Overheated

I ran at 5pm today and did about 4 miles and had to take a long water break because I felt overheated. After cooling down ( I even applied a cold, iced cloth to my face and neck) I mainly walked the last 5 miles. I guess I'll have to run early or a lot later in the day. I ran the 7 mile run in about one and 1/2 hours , but this 9 miles took two and 1/2 hours. It makes a huge difference to run with the group as far as moral support and feeling like you can finish the distance. After my run I was locked out of our house--my husband and kids went to get pizza and forgot to leave the back door unlocked (I don't usually bring my key on short runs). So I sat outside awhile and then sat down in our other car and fell asleep. Meanwhile our other car wouldn't start and my husband couldn't reach me so he had to call a friend to bring them home. What our the chances of the car not starting when I get locked out of the house!!! The lesson learned is bring keys on all runs and leave a cell phone outside somewhere so your family can contact you, and remember to check the cell phone for messages. We still don't know what is wrong with the car and will have to get it looked at ( and towed) on Monday. Bonnie

Missed the 9 mile run

I worked last night until 7:30 am so I missed the group run. I'm trying to decide the best route in my neighborhood for a longer run--for me it's so much more like work to run alone, but fun with the group. Anyway, if anyone has any thoughts on what they do to make up the long runs please comment. How was today's run at Fleet Feet? Bonnie

It's good to be blogging

I ran 31/2 miles today around 8am. My work days are usually Wed and Thurs. (12hours) so those days I have to get in late training/running. It wasn't too hard today but I didn't push myself. Looking forward to the run this Sat.--wonder where the route is, but I'm sure it'll be fun. Gotta go for now. Bonnie

Keep on keeping on

I waited until after dinner to run today and I was a little sluggish. I ended up doing just 30 min. today because I had to go pick my daughter up from Karate and ran out of daylight. So I plan on making tomorrow a longer training run--I am thinking that occasionally we can switch Mon. and Tues. running times as long as we are sure to rest on Friday before the long run. If you have any thoughts on that let me know. Too bad there is no remedy for a bruised toe but I didn't expect any great break throughs on that. Wow, Mark, you ran 6 miles today and I probably barely finished 2 miles and felt pretty good about that. Hope everyone's training is going smoothly. Bonnie

This is just my second time posting since I was having troubling getting my password to work and let me use my blog site. Saturday in Raymond was a lot of fun and it felt great to be part of a group that was having FUN running/walking. I have finally started running ( I walked for 12 weeks like Mark instructed) and am running about a 13 min. mile. So far I have had just minor aches and pains and a bruised toe(next to my great toe) and I know my shoes fit fine. I read in Runners' world that a bruised toe is a right of passage so that makes me part of the group. Ha! I just have long toes and I think that will continue to happen. I wonder if I should bandage that toe. I know toe shoes in ballet are rough on your feet too. Anyone have any remedies for bruised toes? My toe nail is fine for now. Before the Raymond run I had to drag myself out of bed and really didn't feel like working that hard, but it didn't seem too much like work. I have been keeping to the training schedule pretty well and have just skipped a couple crosstraining days when we were out of town on vacation. Oh, another thing, I haven't lost one lb. but I wasn't really expecting too, but it is strange that we can work so hard and not loose weight. Guess I didn't know that before this program. Bonnie
